What does Deutsche Telekom do?

Bonn-based Deutsche Telekom sells mobile, internet and TV services in Germany and many European countries. Most of its money now comes from the US, though, where it owns a majority of T-Mobile US, one of the three big wireless carriers. It also runs T-Systems, an IT services provider for businesses.

Where you know it from

Your mobile contract, your router or MagentaTV at home, plus the magenta Telekom shops found in almost every German town.

How Deutsche Telekom makes money

  • IT for businesses (T-Systems)3 %
Revenue share 2025

Strengths

  • Phone and internet contracts renew every month, which brings predictable income.
  • T-Mobile US has grown strongly for years, with revenue up about 4 percent in 2025.
  • The largest provider of mobile and home internet connections in Germany.

Risks

  • About two thirds of revenue comes from the US, so a weak dollar hurts its numbers.
  • Building out fibre and 5G costs many billions every year.
  • The group carries a lot of debt, partly from spectrum licences and acquisitions.
