What does Siemens Healthineers do?

Siemens Healthineers builds machines that let doctors look inside the body, such as MRI, CT and X-ray. It also makes lab tests for blood samples and, through its US subsidiary Varian, radiation therapy systems for cancer. Siemens owns the majority of the company but plans to hand 30 percent of the shares directly to its own shareholders in a spin-off. Siemens shareholders are due to vote on it in February 2027.

Strengths

  • One of the world’s leading makers of MRI and CT scanners.
  • Every machine sold brings years of maintenance and service revenue.
  • Ageing populations need more diagnoses and treatments.

Risks

  • Higher US tariffs weigh on profits in every division.
  • The lab diagnostics business barely grows, earns much less and is being prepared for a carve-out.
  • In China, centralized government bulk tenders push down prices, especially for lab tests.
